On July 12 ePathway Academy students visited the Fresno VA (Veteran’s Administration) hospital. The VA hospital is rich with history and tradition, and during a tour by Mary Golden the students were able to get a feel for this important emphasis. During a panel discussion, students were able to hear from (and ask questions of) leaders from around the hospital, including Dr. Virginia Alandamo (chief of employee education), Linda Hayes (a supervisory program analyst working in mental health), Vicki Carswell (the administrative assistant to the assistant director), Cynthia Richmond (chief of Veteran’s Canteen Services), and Sabino Medina (director of outpatient services). Students learned about many of the aspects of running a hospital, from internal financial controls to lean process improvement to implementing difficult policies. Thanks to the team at the Fresno VA hospital for a great visit!
